The international environment here is great, many people have moved from other countries, and everyone speaks English, so it’s been easy to integrate.
- Suus Ten Hage, Systems Engineer at NIRA Dynamics
I have a background in Medical Biology with a bachelor’s degree and a master's in systems biology from the Netherlands. The master's in Systems Biology had a strong focus on Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Modelling of biological systems.
I graduated during the COVID pandemic while living in Canada and worked on mathematical models analyzing how COVID was spreading. When my Canadian VISA expired, I moved back to the Netherlands and started working as a software engineer.
Eventually, I decided to move to Sweden with my partner. We chose Sweden because we wanted to live closer to nature.
Why I joined NIRA
I found the job posting on LinkedIn and was immediately interested. We didn’t want to move to a big city because we love being close to nature. I was looking for an interesting role, and NIRA seemed like the perfect fit.
Linköping has turned out to be a great place for us. Being surrounded by nature feels like a luxury compared to where we were living before.
My role at NIRA
I work in the Road Insights team as a Systems Engineer. My responsibilities involve developing and maintaining features in the system, creating functionality, ensuring everything works seamlessly, and preventing issues.
Road Insights is a relatively new tool, and it’s exciting to get feedback now that customers are using it. We’ve received very positive responses, and it’s rewarding to work in such a customer-oriented way, using their feedback to drive further development.
My perspective on NIRA’s technology
We’re working on a lot of cool and innovative technologies and products. There’s always something new happening, and it’s exciting to see the variety of things we’re developing simultaneously.
It’s incredibly satisfying when customers are happy and give us positive feedback. Hearing that we’ve solved their problems quickly, professionally, and efficiently is very rewarding.
The company culture at NIRA
The culture here is relaxed and flexible, which I really appreciate. I have a lot of control over my time, and the flexibility to reprioritize when needed makes it easy to thrive.
Since joining NIRA, I’ve learned so much: new tools, technologies, and ways of working. It is new for me to work in bigger teams, so it’s been exciting to experience how much is happening and to learn from so many skilled people. Moving to a new country isn’t always easy, but NIRA has made the transition smooth. Everyone was very welcoming and supportive, which helped me settle in quickly. The international environment here is great, many people have moved from other countries, and everyone speaks English, so it’s been easy to integrate.
Looking ahead
I’m looking forward to continuing to grow at NIRA as an engineer and learning even more. One of my personal goals is to improve my Swedish, I’ve started to understand quite a bit and can’t wait to speak fluently.
